Fenerbahce wanted to sell Guler to Barca, not Madrid, for two reasons.
Arda Guler is set to join Real Madrid. The transfer has not been confirmed yet but it’s been reported by multiple sources that the Whites have beaten Barcelona for the wonderkid’s signature.
Mundo Deportivo report that Fenerbahce would have preferred to sell the midfielder to Barcelona over Madrid. The reason is simple: the Catalans were not ready to sign him now, they wanted to keep him at the Turkish club for a year on loan. But Madrid will take the midfielder now, meaning that Fenerbahce will have to urgently find a replacement.
It was Guler who pushed for a move to Madrid and, as he had the last word, Fenerbahce had to agree to sell him to the Whites.
Additionally, Fenerbahce president Ali Koc is a Barcelona fan. He is the former chairman of electoric appliances company Beco, which sponsored the Catalans between 2014 and 2022. So he wanted to sell Guler to Blaugrana.
