The 189th Manchester derby will take place at Old Trafford on Saturday at lunchtime, when fierce rivals Manchester United and Manchester City play each other.

The Red Devils will want to get even with the Citizens after losing to them 6-3 at the Etihad Stadium in October.

Since losing to City, Man United has had a lot to smile about. Erik ten Hag has led his team on a great run of form. They have only lost one of their last 18 competitive games, a 3-1 loss at Aston Villa in early November, and they have won all six games since the World Cup break.

United’s most recent win was in the EFL Cup, when they beat Charlton Athletic 3-0 at home on Tuesday night and moved on to the semi-finals. Marcus Rashford scored twice, and Antony, who joined United in the summer, also scored.

Ten Hag has now won 20 of his first 27 games as manager of the Red Devils. This is the shortest amount of time it has taken any manager in the club’s history to reach this point. The Dutchman seems to have brought hope back to the Theatre of Dreams. He has overseen a huge improvement in the team’s fortunes, and they are now aiming for domestic cup glory and a top-four spot in the Premier League this season.

Man United is currently in fourth place in the Premier League table, tied with Newcastle United for third place in terms of points. Since August 22, when they beat Liverpool 2-1, they have won 11 of their 15 games, which is more than any other team.

But reigning Premier League champions Man City, who have won the last three Manchester derbies by a combined score of 12-4, will put their good form to the test. The Red Devils have also lost more Premier League games at home to the City than to any other team (eight).

But Man United’s overall form and recent run at Old Trafford are good signs for Saturday’s game. They have won nine straight games at home and kept seven clean sheets in that time.

If Ten Hag and his team win, they would move up to second place, one point behind City and six points behind leaders Arsenal, who play United next weekend after playing North London rivals Arsenal on Sunday. There are still 20 league games left for the Red Devils, so it may not be long before people start talking about them making a run for the title.
