Latest Arsenal news includes fan reaction to the opening of the January transfer window with the Gunners interested in signing Shakhtar Donetsk winger Mykhaylo Mudryk
The January transfer window is officially open, thus providing Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta and sporting director Edu with a chance to bolster the first-team squad.
In fact, the Gunners pair have been urged by some supporters on social media to get down to business as soon as possible with the side opening up a seven-point lead at the top of the Premier League table following a 4-2 win over Brighton and Hove Albion on New Year’s Eve.
History indicates Arsenal will be busy this month. In the three winter transfer windows Arteta has overseen, five senior players have been signed – albeit four of which have been loan deals – and they have been heavily linked with moves for the likes of Joao Felix, Youri Tielemans and Mykhaylo Mudryk.
If the north London outfit are able to get one or two deals over the line between now and deadline day, it just might give them an extra boost to hold off Manchester City in the title race and be crowned Premier League champions for the first time since the 2003/04 Invincibles season.
What should fill Arsenal fans with confidence about this particular transfer window is when speaking recently, Arteta admitted that the club will be alert to any situation that can benefit the squad, especially after losing Gabriel Jesus and Reiss Nelson to injury during the World Cup break.
“We are going to be active and active means we are looking to strengthen the team,”he revealed. “This squad still doesn’t have the luxury of not maximising every single window. We have to do that because it’s really important. But then we have to get the right profile, it has to be the right player to take us to the next level.”
It would appear that Mudryk has been identified as the player that can take Arsenal to the ‘next level’. As reported by football.london at the beginning of the week, the club lodged their first official bid in an attempt to sign the winger and the offer was believed to be in the region of £55m including add-ons.
Despite seeing that offer rejected by Shakhtar Donetsk – who are looking for a bid “closer to the Jack Grealish fee (£100m)”, the Gunners are expected to return with an improved package in the coming days and judging by the reaction on Twitter, the hope is that a deal can be concluded as soon as possible.
With a post that included images of Mudryk, Joao Felix and Tielemans @rehnato said: “Happy transfer window everyone! @Arsenal, do the right thing and back Arteta, this is our best shot in years”, @_imanshelby said: “The transfer window is now open! @Arsenal, go get Mudryk now he’s desperate to join us”, @Rory_Talks_Ball is keen for some news: “Hey @Arsenal, the January transfer window is open now, you can announce Mudryk.”
Furthermore, @danthegooner46 had a rather ambitious take: “Transfer window is open, Mudryk is an easy day 1 signing @Arsenal, want that done ASAP” and @Abdull254G has urged Arsenal to complete the signing of Mudryk: “The transfer window is open it’s time to announce him @Arsenal.”
