When they play Bournemouth at Stamford Bridge on Tuesday night, Chelsea will be looking to end a terrible three-game losing streak in the Premier League.

Before the World Cup break, the Blues were stuck in eighth place in the table. The Cherries, on the other hand, have moved up to 14th place but are still in danger of being dragged down.

The “new manager bounce” for a goal-shy Chelsea team has long since worn off. In their first nine games under Graham Potter, they didn’t lose, but in their last five games before the World Cup break, they lost four times.

The fact that the Blues won their group and moved on to the next round of the Champions League was a small bright spot in an otherwise bad season at home. The Blues lost to Manchester City in the third round of the EFL Cup and to Brighton & Hove Albion, Arsenal, and Newcastle United in a row in the Premier League.

Even adding a winter friendly against Aston Villa did not change Chelsea’s luck, as they lost 1-0 to Unai Emery’s team. This means that in their last four games, both competitive and friendly, they haven’t won a single one and haven’t scored a single goal.

Chelsea is eight points away from a spot in the top four of the Premier League table, but they are only two points away from a possible spot in the bottom half, and Potter’s long-term future at Stamford Bridge is already up in the air.

Chelsea hasn’t lost four straight Premier League games since the days of Ruud Gullit and Gianluca Vialli in 1998. However, runaway leaders Arsenal are the only team to win and keep a clean sheet against the Blues at Stamford Bridge this season.
