Louis Saha warns Manchester United against pursuing Frenkie de Jong.

United came close to signing De Jong in the summer transfer window, but unpaid deferred wages from Barcelona complicated a move. Instead, United signed Casemiro and Christian Eriksen as midfield additions.

The Manchester Evening News stated that United had not ruled out another swoop for De Jong, who reportedly told Ten Hag he was happy to join United.

United agreed to pay Barcelona €85m for De Jong in the summer. Ten Hag saw him as a world-class talent who would balance the team.

Saha is a fan of the former Ajax great, but he warns United that’massive’ January additions rarely work out.

“Frenkie de Jong is a superb player and would benefit Manchester United. He was composed at the World Cup “Paddy Power’s Saha. “If Casemiro retains his World Cup form, no one is better than him. His aggression and composure are top-notch.

“Having so many midfielders isn’t always healthy. If United wish to sign De Jong, Donny van de Beek must leave. Erik ten Hag must make tough decisions on Frenkie de Jong.

“Manchester United wants to be at the top, and those signings would be huge, but not in the midst of the season.”
