Argentina defeated the Netherlands in their World Cup quarterfinal this evening, keeping Lionel Messi’s World Cup dream alive.
The Argentines, largely because of their captain, appeared to be the superior team for the majority of the match.
Nahuel Molina scored the game’s first goal with a beautiful pass from Lionel Messi in the first half.
It appeared that the game was over when he converted a penalty late in the second half. But two extremely late goals from the substitute Wout Weghorst would force extra time and ultimately penalties.
Argentina would eventually succeed in completing the task.
Conflict between Lionel Messi and Louis van Gaal
The Spanish referee dealt out a lot of yellow cards during the heated match between the two teams. The teams clashed several times throughout the game, including following a brutal late-game tackle from Leandro Paredes.
After the game, nobody forgot about that.
In the lead-up to the game, Louis van Gaal had made a few remarks about Lionel Messi, claiming that it would not be difficult to stop the PSG player.
It’s not that difficult to come up with an answer as to how to stop him. You might want to block and close the passing lines. I can’t see this creating too much of a hoo-ha.
