Saka said he is ‘confident’ of signing a new deal with Arsenal this summer, but there has been little progress. His current contract expires in 2024. City and Liverpool are monitoring the England international’s situation. Mikel Arteta shares Saka’s optimism about a new deal.

Bukayo Saka hasn’t signed a new contract with Arsenal.

Real Madrid could be interested in Saka if his contract situation drags on. The 21-year-old broke into the Gunners’ senior team and is now considered the star to return glory to the Emirates Stadium.

There have been no reports of progress between the club and Saka’s camp, which could lead to big offers for the Arsenal star in the coming transfer windows.

CIES Football Observatory values Saka at up to €100 million (£87.5 million), but Arsenal would likely demand more than £100million for one of their star players.

The England international is in the top five for Arsenal appearances before turning 20 and has been used the most by Mikel Arteta since 2019. Saka’s importance to the Gunners can’t be overstated, but if he wants to win trophies and be considered one of the best, he may need to move to Barcelona or Real Madrid.

Jonathan Barnett, agent of Gareth Bale and Eduardo Camavinga, says players must move to Madrid to be the best. “If you want to be the best player in the world, play for Real Madrid,” said Barnett.

This could send a message to Saka and other Madrid-linked players. Kylian Mbappe turned down a move to Real Madrid earlier this year and signed a new deal with PSG. Whether he made the right decision for his career remains to be seen.

Saka could face a similar decision to Mbappe in the coming years: whether to pursue his own dreams or help his boyhood club regain success.
