The owner of Chelsea, Todd Boehly, is said to have talked to Sporting Lisbon’s manager, Ruben Amorim, before deciding that Graham Potter would be the best person to replace Thomas Tuchel. Potter is likely to be named the new head coach of Chelsea, but Boehly has looked into other options.

The Blues fired Tuchel early Wednesday morning. Potter became the clear favorite to take over at Stamford Bridge as soon as Brighton hired him as their manager.

Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane, who are both currently unemployed, have also been thought of. But Brighton let Chelsea talk to Potter, and Potter went to London to talk with Chelsea.

Rob Dorsett, a reporter for Sky Sports, says that Boehly has also looked at Amorim. Amorim, who is 37 years old, got his start as a manager in 2019 at Braga. In March 2020, he took over at Sporting.

Dorsett says that Chelsea fans would think of Amorim as a “young Jose Mourinho” because of their similarities. When he took over as Chelsea’s manager in 2004, Mourinho was 41 years old, which made him a little older than Amorim.

Boehly talked to Amorim directly, and his short time as a manager so far has impressed him. Potter is still likely to be named the new manager of Chelsea.

Amorim is being looked at as a possible future hire in west London. But Dorsett said, “It’s a reminder that Graham Potter is not out of the picture.”

Pundits have said a lot of good things about Potter’s upcoming job. And Jason Cundy, who used to play defense for Chelsea, is excited for his old team.

Cundy said on talkSPORT: “I’ve seen what he’s done, and with [Leandro] Trossard and [Pascal] Gross, I’m surprised those two players are still there. I thought at least one of those would be picked up by Manchester United.

“He gets good football players and makes them into great ones. Look at what he has done for [Marc] Cucurella. Since coming to Chelsea, Cucurella has changed as a player.

“What he’s done for some of these players, how they play football, and the style of football they play. Just take a look at some of these players.

“You think of [Alexis] Mac Allister because he’s become such a great player. He gets the most out of the team he has, and I’ll tell you what, the team he has at Chelsea is pretty good. Make no mistake.

“I can’t wait to see what we look like when he gets his hands on this team. We’re in for a treat if we’re anything like Brighton.”
