Since Diego Costa went to Atletico Madrid, Chelsea has been without a good striker who can score goals, and they have spent a lot of money on a replacement they never got.
Players like Werner, Lukaku, Higuain, Morata, Batshuayi, and Havertz were bought or lent to the club to fill the center forward spot, but none of them have been able to solve Chelsea’s goal-scoring problems.
Werner, for example, was sent back to the club from which he was signed (RB Leipzig) at a loss. Romelu Lukaku was loaned back to Inter Milan, the club from which Chelsea bought him for 100 million euros in less than a year. Morata, who was the worst of the bunch, was sent to Atletico Madrid by former Chelsea sporting director Marina.
Aubameyang seems to be a breath of fresh air at Stamford Bridge. He seems to be a low-risk purchase for Chelsea, and he has always been great at scoring goals. Even when he played for Arsenal, he shared the Golden Boot with Mane and Salah. Don’t forget that he played for an Arsenal team that wasn’t very good and didn’t do much.
Kovasic said these things to explain why Aubameyang would be a great solution to Chelsea’s problems with scoring goals:
“He’s a real striker and goal scorer, which is something we haven’t had in a while. We haven’t had a player score 20 or 25 goals a season, which is obviously what you need to win the title. We’re excited to have him join our team.”
Chelsea’s past and present strikers who didn’t work out were never a good fit for the team’s system. They were bought without a plan for how to use them or fit them into the club.
Thomas Tuchel and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang worked together at Borussia Dortmund, so we know for sure that Aubameyang knows how Thomas Tuchel plays. He also played in the English Premier League, where he was a top striker for a bad Arsenal team.
Aubameyang is definitely the best choice for Chelsea because he fits their style of play perfectly. Imagine Aubameyang and Sterling working together on offense. There are some things that are better left out of your mind, I can already see Goals.
