Nuno Tavares wanted to join Marseille permanently on loan, but Arsenal refused. Tavares makes an unexpected statement about his loan to Marseille.
The defender, who joined Arsenal last summer, has been demoted to Ligue 1 following a disappointing start.
Tavares scored three goals in four games on loan and hoped to join the club permanently.
“I don’t know if Kieran Tierney was an issue at Arsenal, but that’s not the point,” Tavares told RMC Sport.
“I wanted to play my position in Marseille. Arsenal refused to let me buy out my contract with OM. Arsenal never gave my agents a buy option.
“I’m happy at OM, option or not. I would have played in the FA Cup and EFL Cup at Arsenal.
“I joined Marseille to play in the Champions League, league, and cup. Marseille helped me.”
