Arsenal is doing everything possible to bring in a midfielder before the summer transfer window closes.
On Deadline Day, time is running out, but Arsenal is still determined to sign star player Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa, who wants to leave.
The Gunners have already signed several new players this summer, including Marquinhos, Matt Turner, Fabio Vieira, Gabriel Jesus, and Oleksandr Zinchenko.
The fact that things have been going well at the Emirates this season has helped them fit in with the team. Arsenal is in first place with five wins out of five games. On Sunday, they will go to Erik ten Hag’s new-look Manchester United, a very important match.
But Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny’s injuries have left the Gunners’ midfield a little thin. Reports have spread that Edu and the rest of the team are working hard to get Brazilian star Douglas Luiz transferred at the last minute.
Villa is getting close to signing Leander Dendoncker, a midfielder for Wolves. This means the club has a replacement for Luiz if he were to leave on Deadline Day. Arsenal’s recent signings have been top-notch, thanks to Edu and Arteta’s help so that no one will doubt their plan for Luiz.
This point can be made stronger because Pep Guardiola also thinks highly of him. Luiz signed with City in 2017, but he never played for the Cityzens because of problems with his work permit. Instead, he was loaned to Girona for two years, and then in 2019, he signed with Villa.
Guardiola was upset that he couldn’t work with Luiz. In 2021, after a game between City and Villa, the Spaniard said that Luiz is smart and strong, which makes him talented: He told the MEN, “He has played a lot of minutes and is an important player for Aston Villa.”
“He’s so big and strong for a guy who’s good with the ball.”
Guardiola went on to say that he was happy with how Luiz had improved at Villa Park. “He’s a nice guy, but when he first came, he couldn’t play because he didn’t have a work permit,” he said. I’m glad he’s getting better and better. When he played defence in the game today, he was good.”
Given that Arteta’s philosophy is similar to Guardiola’s and that they both like players with similar styles, it’s easy to see why Arteta wants to bring Luiz to the Emirates. Now, all Arsenal fans can do is wait for the deal to be done.
