The sell-on clause for Douglas Luiz at Aston Villa could be a big problem for Arsenal if they want to buy him.
Arsenal got off to a good start in the summer transfer window. They strengthened both their offense and defense, which was clear at the end of last season. Even though the window got off to a good start, more acquisitions still need to be made.
The Gunners have been trying to sign a midfielder and a winger for most of the transfer window, but they haven’t had much luck. But Edu may soon be able to sign a midfielder after it was said that he was interested in Douglas Luiz.
A deal to sign Douglas Luiz from Aston Villa is being worked on. Villa sources have said that Luiz will not be sold, but with less than a year left on his contract, a move cannot be ruled out.
A possible sell-on clause is another reason why Villa might not want to sell the Brazilian for a low price. Ashley Preece, who writes about Aston Villa for Birmingham Live, says that Manchester City will get 20% of any sale of Douglas Luiz for more than £15 million that Aston Villa makes.
The Brazilian moved from Manchester City to Villa before the 2019/2020 season for reportedly £15 million. A clause about selling on in the future was added to this deal.
Even though Arsenal started the new Premier League season with wins over Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Fulham, and Aston Villa to sit at the top of the table with a perfect record after five games, manager Mikel Arteta is still hoping to add to his team before the 11pm deadline.
“The club has been very helpful in making sure we keep getting better as a squad and as a team,” he told the press after his team beat Villa 2-1 with goals from Gabriel Jesus and Gabriel Martinelli. “We will try if we have the right player and we can do it.”
But since Thomas Partey and Mohamed Elneny are both out with injuries right now, a midfielder might be the most important thing to get before the transfer deadline.
