In gameweek five of the 2022/23 Premier League season, Gabriel Jesus has continued to show how valuable he is.

Coming into this home game, he had scored five goals in his first four Premier League games. People thought that Arsenal’s new number nine would keep playing in his first game against an Aston Villa team that is having a hard time under Steven Gerrard. During a frustrating start to the first half, Bukayo Saka was not given a penalty because Tyrone Mings wasn’t called for pulling his shirt in the box, even though TV showed that he had.

The north Londoners kept pressing and working hard to get that elusive first goal. It came in the 30th minute when Jesus took advantage of a mistake by Emiliano Martinez to score his third goal of the season and contribute to his sixth goal. At the same time that things were happening at the Emirates Stadium in the first half, his replacement at the Etihad Stadium kept up his electric start to life in the Premier League by scoring a hat-trick against Nottingham Forest in the first half.

Both players did well in the first half, which was good news for Fantasy Premier League owners who had faith in them from the start.

But would Jesus have done the same thing if he had stayed in City and gotten to know Haaland?

Martin Keown thinks that Arteta’s decision to play the £45m player in the middle instead of on the wing has paid off because Jesus keeps proving this point every week.

“He spent a lot of time on the wing at Manchester City, but now that Haaland is there, he can play in the middle and make up for lost time. From the start, he looks like he’s on fire “Keown said to BT Sport 4.

The former Arsenal defender then gave more details about his goal: “He is the hunter in the box and the first one to react, but Villa’s defense isn’t very good. I don’t know why Konsa isn’t getting to Xhaka fast enough. He could be farther away, which would make him offside, and then Mings would just pass the ball to Jesus, who would sweep it past the keeper. Martinez needs to do better there.”
