Erik ten Hag completes Man Utd transfer U-turn days before window closes

It is said that Erik ten Hag, the manager of Manchester United, doesn’t want to sell a defender this late in the transfer window because it will be hard to find a replacement.

After manager Erik ten Hag changed his mind, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is expected to stay at Manchester United for now.

The 24-year-old former England youth player has fallen behind Diogo Dalot and was thought to be leaving Old Trafford this summer. He has only been on the field for four minutes in the Premier League this season, when he came off the bench in the win against Liverpool.

Three years ago, Wan-Bissaka moved from Crystal Palace to United in a deal worth £50 million. He played 100 games in his first two seasons at the club when Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was the manager, but Ralf Rangnick didn’t like him as much when he took over.

Wan-Bissaka only started two of the last 10 Premier League games for United last year. The right-back has been praised for how well he defends, but he often doesn’t do much in attack. In 173 club games, he has scored just two goals and set up 14 others.

Roy Keane said in August 2021, “I think the right back [Wan-Bissaka] is probably not good enough.” He added after two months: “I don’t think Palace would even take Wan-Bissaka back! He isn’t good enough for Manchester United. No touch on the ball, making decisions.”

Even though Wan-Bissaka lost his spot at United, he is not likely to move this summer. The Athletic says that United has no plans to sell or loan out the defender, whose contract has two years left, before Thursday’s transfer deadline.

Ten Hag would have to bring in a new right-back. Wan-Bissska could leave United if a replacement is found. Borussia Dortmund star Thomas Meunier is rumored to be moving to Old Trafford this week.

Sergino Dest, a right back for Barcelona, is another possible replacement. United is said to have talked with the Spanish giants about trading Wan-Bissaka for the US international. Wan-Bissaka has played 72 times for the USA in the last two seasons.

At the moment, both transfers don’t look likely. West Ham and Wan-old Bissaka’s team, Palace, are thought to have tried to sign him, but United turned them down. This means the defender isn’t going anywhere, and neither Meunier, 30, nor Dest, 21, are in their plans.

Earlier this summer, there were rumors that Ten Hag would let Wan-Bissaka leave United while keeping Dalot on their roster. But the Dutchman hasn’t made a lot of changes to their team. Since he started working at Old Trafford in May, he’s only brought in four new players.

These players are Feyenoord’s Tyrell Malacia, Brentford’s Christian Eriksen, Ajax’s Lisandro Martinez, and Real Madrid’s Casemiro. Antony, a winger for Ajax, is almost done with an £85m deal to become Ten Hag’s fifth signing of the summer.

Antony was seen going to United’s training ground in Carrington on Monday. Ten Hag said on Saturday afternoon, “We stick to the plan, and if there are good players available, we’ll go for them because we always want to improve the team.”
