Arsenal chief Edu could repeat Fabio Vieira transfer with surprise signing

Arsenal could make a surprising signing, like they did when they got Fabio Vieira. Vieira was the first big name player the Gunners signed during the window, and the deal came out of the blue.

The first time the Portuguese midfielder was mentioned in connection with Arsenal was on June 16, when it was said that a £34 million deal had been made with Porto and the player was on his way to London. Five days later, it was confirmed that Vieira would be coming to the Emirates.

Since the transfer window closed on Thursday night, Arsenal doesn’t have five days to make any last-minute deals. But it shows that technical director Edu can keep a transfer a secret and move quickly behind the scenes.

Several players are said to be interested in moving to north London, but no deal is said to have been made. Mikel Arteta, the team’s manager, wants to bring in a winger, and Pedro Neto, who plays for Wolves, is his top choice.

Pepe is on loan to Nice for a season to make room in the team. Arteta said, “We will try to put our plan into action if we can.”

“In the plan, [Pepe’s loan move] was something that could happen. Now, it has happened, and we’ve been getting ready for it for the last two months so that we can get what we want. We’ll see if that’s possible or not.”

The Gunners are running out of time to carry out Arteta’s plan. But Edu has shown with Vieira that a surprise signing could happen.
