Chelsea ‘discuss Wilfried Zaha swoop’ but Todd Boehly already has transfer plan in place

Chelsea has talked about making a move for Wilfried Zaha of Crystal Palace, but Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang of Barcelona is still Todd Boehly’s top priority. Thomas Tuchel wants to get back together with the Gabon captain, who he coached at Borussia Dortmund. However, he has told his club to think of other options in case the move doesn’t happen.

It’s no secret that Chelsea wants to add to their attacking options. In the first few weeks of the season, the team has had trouble scoring from open play. Raheem Sterling got his first goal in the 2-1 win over Leicester, but Mason Mount and Kai Havertz haven’t been doing well and the club doesn’t seem to have a true No. 9.

The west London team has been linked to a move for Aubameyang, who used to be the captain of Arsenal. After Robert Lewandowski joined Barcelona, the 33-year-old fell down the pecking order.

The Catalan giants are said to be willing to sell the Gabonese forward for about £25 million, but Chelsea hasn’t been willing to meet that price so far. The club recently tried to buy him for £16.9 million plus left-back Marcos Alonso, but they were turned down. They have yet to come up with another offer.

Ed Aarons of the Guardian says that the Blues have talked about the possibility of signing Palace star Zaha. Boehly’s top priority is still Aubameyang, but the Ivorian could be a backup plan if they think Barcelona’s asking price is too high.

The 29-year-old used to be a winger, but he has often played the No. 9 position for Crystal Palace, which makes him an interesting option for the Stamford Bridge team.

Zaha is in the last year of his contract with the Eagles, so they might be more willing to let him go. Still, they are likely to ask for a high fee because he is so important to the team.

Over the course of eleven years and two stints with the club, he has played 433 times and scored 85 goals. Only Tottenham players Son Heung-Min and Harry Kane have scored more goals in the Premier League than him this year.

Given how little time is left in the window, any deal for the former Manchester United player is likely to be complicated because Palace doesn’t have enough time to find a suitable replacement.

It’s still unclear whether or not Chelsea will be able to sign the new forward that Tuchel wants. Before the window closes at midnight on Thursday, it looks like there will be a lot going on at Stamford Bridge.
