Samuel Umtiti has arrived in Italy to finish his move to Lecce. Fans cheered wildly when they saw him.
The defender has had a hard few years at Barcelona, mostly because of injuries that have kept him on the bench most of the time.
Umtiti has a chance to start over in Serie A, and as you can see below, he was very emotional about it.
The French center-back has said before that the last few years have been very hard for him.
He said that he was crying when he spoke to President Joan Laporta last year and asked for a second chance to prove himself.
He said, “It was a very important talk for me.” “I needed to get things off my chest and let him know that I am in good shape and want to help the team.
“In the meeting, I cried. We talked about some tough things; it was very serious. I don’t say much, but what I do say comes straight from my heart.”
Earlier in the day, Barcelona confirmed that they had reached an agreement with Lecce for the defender to spend the season on loan with the Serie A team.
Umtiti is the third player Xavi told to leave the Camp Nou earlier this year to actually leave. Riqui Puig and Oscar Mingueza have also left the club, leaving only Martin Braithwaite.
