Chelsea is said to be interested in Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba after dropping their pursuit of Welsey Fofana. Arsenal is also reportedly interested in the Bundesliga center-back.
Sky Germany says that Burkina Faso international has become a target for Chelsea after their latest attempt to sign France youth international Fofana was turned down by Leicester City. The Foxes want £85 million for Fofana, which the Blues reportedly aren’t willing to pay.
Since Arsenal is also said to be interested in Tapsoba, Thomas Tuchel could try to sign the 23-year-old superstar before Arsenal does. Chelsea is desperate to sign a new defender before the transfer window closes next Thursday.
Tapsoba is one of the most promising central defenders in Germany. He plays for Leverkusen and has been called “gargantuan” by Total Football Analysis. Over the past few years, he has been linked with a move to a bigger club, and Chelsea could be the club that gives him that chance.
Premier League clubs are running out of time to make their last deals, so Chelsea could make a very late move to sign Tapsoba. Arsenal is unlikely to move for the center-back because Mikel Arteta now has a lot of options at the position for the new season, and William Saliba is already in the running for the club’s Player of the Season award.
Even though Tapsoba would be a great addition to Arsenal, the Blues’ need for a top center-back makes them even more desperate to make a last-minute defensive signing. Since they are no longer in the running for Fofana, the Leverkusen star is the perfect replacement.
This summer, Chelsea could make a huge offer to sign TAPSOBA.
Chelsea has been looking for two centre backs all summer. Kalidou Koulibaly was a good deal, but it has been hard for Tuchel to find a second player. Tapsoba is a good chance for Todd Boehly to spend money again on a player the Premier League team could use.
After all, Chelsea’s failure to sign Fofana is a huge loss. However, signing Tapsoba could make up for this mistake, given how much potential the Leverkusen star has. The Blues could also steal one of Arsenal’s many summer targets from Arteta.
