Mikel Arteta watched Fabio Vieira and Emile Smith Rowe play for Arsenal’s under-21s on Wednesday.

The two midfielders were in regular communication as they dovetailed down the right wing and displayed flexibility of movement.

Arteta has stated the duo will be available against Bournemouth, although most likely on the bench.

Where will Vieira play in his debut? The boss was asked this before visiting Vitality.

“Fabio’s adaptability struck our attention,” said Arteta. “He’ll provide us a lot of choices.”

“It’s about fostering how they operate together and the type of players Fabio needs around him to exploit his abilities, which we feel might be extremely effective in this side, so we’ll see how that develops.”

Arteta was questioned if pairing Vieira and Smith Rowe in the U-21s was planned.

We want players that make each other better, and to do so, they require chemistry, understanding, timing, and other attributes.

Fabio has been training with us for a week, so he needs to evaluate where he clicks and where he can make a major effect for the squad.

Arteta wasn’t the only notable player at Wednesday’s Premier League Cup encounter. Gabriel Martinelli, Vinai Venkatesham, Richard Garlick, Albert Stuivenberg, Steve Round, and Carlos Cuesta were in the stands to encourage Mehmet Ali’s youngsters.

When we have time, we want to be there to support Mehmet, the coaches, and the players, said Arteta.

“We need to connect the first-team and academy, be unified in how we want to play, and get talent into the first-team. Our club’s goal.”
